Here Is Information On Hypoallergenic Dogs

By Ronald Bailey

It is true that interaction with animals of any kind, including pets and domestic animals carries some risk of contracting diseases. An example of these diseases is allergy. Many pets, especially cats and dogs cause a lot of allergic reaction in some people because of their coats. Hair and fur fall off the animals through shedding and can cause allergy in some people. This is what Hypoallergenic dogs entail.

How much hair is shed by the pet relies on the breed of canine under consideration. Dogs that shed hair minimally or do not shed at all are termed as hypoallergenic. Finding a dog that is purely hypoallergenic is not possible even though the level of shedding is what differs among breeds. The term hypoallergenic is used a lot to refer to animals that shed their hair only minimally.

People who are allergic to the hair shed by canines usually have very limited options when it comes to choosing dog breeds. They are forced to limit their choice to dogs that do not shed their coats even if they do not like the breed. This can be miserable, especially if for example someone likes work canines like Germany shepherds and they are forced to buy a terrier because of their allergy.

One can choose to buy a breed that sheds its coat, but observe certain measures to ensure that the shedding does not cause a lot of effects on the owner. For instance, ensuring that the dog never enters the bedroom or other rooms where one frequents can help to keep their hair out. If the weather is favorable, the pet should be kept outside in a kennel so that it does not bring its dander indoors.

Dander and dead hair on the pet can also be removed by regularly bathing and grooming the animal. A week should not pass without bathing the dog. However, doing this adversely affects the dog because important oils on its body are removed by water and soap. One can also decide to install a floor that does not require the installation of a carpet as an alternative approach. If one cannot avoid a carpet, then they have to make sure that it is washed regularly.

If the above-mentioned options do not work or are not good enough, one can choose from the many dog breeds that are considered hypoallergenic. These breeds include Havanese, Bichon Frise, West Highland White Terrier, Poodle (Toy, Miniature, and Standard), Portuguese Water Dog, and Brussels Griffon. Other non-shedding breeds include Shih Tzu, Chinese Creasted, Maltese Terrier Scottish Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Labradoodle, and Schnauzer (Miniature and Standard).

Some breeders take advantage of the fact that the dog breeds named above are non-shedding to exaggerate their prices. That is why one will find most of the canines named above selling at a comparatively higher market price. Thankfully, the supply of these canines is high and that helps to keep the price at a reasonable level.

Buying a non-shedding breed does not mean that one should no stop observing measures that minimize the presence of dander in the house. The popularity of canines that are termed as hypoallergenic is very high in the US. There are canines that are popular specifically because they do nod shed.
