Could A Board And Train CT Program Be A Good Idea For Your Unruly Pet

By David Olson

Some pets seems to have a natural inclination to behave in a mannerly fashion while others embrace obedience training as though they were born to it. Then there are other pets that resist everyone's efforts that involve teaching them the way they are expected to behave inside and on a leash. If you have such a pet, you should consider a board and train CT program that gets him on the right track.

Training a pet becomes more complicated when everyone in the household is out all day working or at school. Boarding your puppy with a trainer for a period of time can be a good solution. You have two basic options with these services. There are the in home programs and the kennel programs.

When you choose the in home program, your pet will live with the trainer's family for several weeks, usually two. One of the benefits of these programs is that pets are living outside cages. They are learning proper etiquette that most families require of indoor pets. These include house training and respect for boundaries. The puppies will also develop social skills when they interact with other animals in the household that are being trained.

Kennel programs usually have animals in outdoor kennels unless there is a training session going on. They are kept with all the other animals. There is less interaction with people in an informal setting. You may incur additional fees if you want your puppy exercised or walked more often than the basic training package offers.

Basic training is the goal of most of these programs. Your puppy will learn how to heel, come, sit, and stay. He will be house trained. Your puppy will learn manners like not jumping up on people, not rushing doors, and not pulling on his leash.

Owners who want trainers to help them with dogs that have behavioral issues such as excessive shyness or aggression need to understand that some trainers resort to behavior modification methods that involve desensitizing. If you have a dog that is aggressive, and you want the trainer to modify this behavior, you need to discuss whether or not the trainer is a believer in prong, choke, or shock collars as a way to coerce an animal into behaving. If you object to flooding as a behavior modification technique, you should make that clear to the trainer.

One of the obvious advantages of using these services is that your pet will be learning good habits from a professional trainer. The results should be faster and more complete than if you had tried to do the work yourself. If you're going out of town and leaving your animal behind, taking him to a trainer might be a perfect option.

The biggest disadvantage to leaving your pet with a trainer or kennel is that you won't really know what methods they are using to change your dog's behavior. You have to trust the trainer or kennel to do the right thing. Regressing after the return home is normal. It will be your responsibility to reinforce the efforts of your dog's trainer.
