The Egyptian cat is a breed of felines whose origin can be traced to the country of Egypt in Africa. In fact, the other name that is used to refer to the feline is the Pharaoh cat. The manner in which the body of the Egyptian mau is built makes it to look like a miniature jungle cat. It has a spotted coat, with large green eyes placed centrally on the face.

The feline was among the most liked species across the world in 2014. Various researches report that the breed was 20th in position with regards to popularity. The origin of Egyptian cats in America is traceable to the kittens that were bred in New York by a Russian Princess. Through the great role played by the princes, the breed became popular in the country.

The feline is medium in size, with the mature females attaining a weight range of 6 and 10 pounds. Males are usually much bigger and heavier than the females. An adult male usually attains a weight range of 10 to 14 pounds. The heads are triangle shaped and proportional to the rest of the body. The ears stand straight on the head, but can assume different positions.

The length of the coat is moderate. Besides, they shade moderately. With this trait, many individuals prefer the species. The short coat eliminates the need to shade too much hair, which is a very important trait for people with allergies. Egyptian cats come in numerous varieties of colors. Silver, blue, black, and smoke are among the colors that occur commonly.

Pharaoh cats are low maintenance because they have a short coat and they do not shade too much hair like other breeds. Grooming is only needed occasionally to maintain the coat in good shape. Grooming is important because it helps to prevent matting, stimulates circulation, and removes plucked hair. Grooming on a weekly basis should be enough. One can employ a professional pet groomer every once in a while to do the job professionally

In comparison to other breeds, Egyptians are not challenged by many health complications. As such, they suit owners who are inexperienced in keeping cats. One is advised to ensure the kitten is tested for any genetic health condition prior to making a purchase. For each kitten one acquires a health certificate should accompany it.

This breed is very friendly to people, other pets, and animals. It forms strong bonds with their owners and enjoy playing with little kids as well. However, for safety reasons, kids younger than 6 years should not be left to play with the cat or any other pet for that matter. The breed also exhibits a high level of intelligence.

Finally, vocalization of the breed is moderate. Vocalization is normally done when the cat experiences specific stimuli. Removing any stimuli that may be resulting into vocalization helps to reduce the habit. The vocalization of the cat is less when kept warm and content. Since the cat is friendly, human company is essential for its comfort.
