Why You Need Horse Wormers

By Ruth Murphy

Horse owners are usually called blessed because it is believed that owning one brings an end to most difficulties. Talk about traveling long distances without bothering about the high cost of petrol and a horse becomes the solution. In the summer and in the winter, horses will never stop to do their masters' bidding. Taking good care of it would only mean reciprocating the services it renders.

You cannot claim to take very good care of your horses if you do not have a regular worming practice. Failure to worm it regularly can lead to the harmful effects of parasitic worms such as small red worms, bots, lungworms, threadworms, tapeworms, pinworms, roundworms and more. Horse wormers can be used to deal with all these parasites.

Worming your horses can save you money. Worms in horses are mainly responsible for the excessive feeding habits possessed by some horses so if the owner is able to worm, the horse's insatiability can be normalized. Some worms reside in the intestine where they feed on already digested materials. If they are not eradicated on time, it may get to a situation where the animal will seize to grow because it has no access to the nutrients of the food it takes.

The idea of preventing other horses around from contracting worms is possible with wormers. With less frequent worming occasions, infected horses will continue to release worms in feces which will be mixed with the pasture that other horses share. This can be effectively checked when you worm regularly and give your horse the required medication.

Worming also prolongs the health and longevity of the horse. This is because the organs will be more effective and functional. By prolonging the life of your animal, you too will benefit from it since your animal will continue to perform those strenuous tasks.

Worming your horses is both a science and a skill. You can learn the fundamentals if you have a doctor to teach you. That does not mean that you are automatically qualified to address every health sign your horses show. Getting the help of an animal doctor for your horses is just an indispensable factor for making it live long.

Worming gives more satisfactory results when it is done regularly. You may want to choose a daily, weekly or a monthly plan, depending on the number of horses you have and previous cases of infection (if any). Worming and sanitation give the best result. When there is no more contaminated pasture for the animal to graze on, you can have a greater peace of mind.

Horses look strong almost every time, so it may be quite difficult to know that they have been infected. That means you must be observant for signs such as diarrhea, colic, loss of condition, loss of weight, loss of appetite, loss of weight and more. Even horses that are stabled can be affected by worms. It is necessary to have the contacts of horse doctors who can arrange some preventive and curative treatments for your dear horses.
